Reading is important; it's also fun.
But why make such a fuss about reading? Reading goes beyond recognising familiar words; reading is about understanding. It's about making informed choices, so we can spot 'fake news'. Do you believe everything people tell you? Or do you expect some kind of proof or evidence? Do you trust that certain people will tell you the truth, but perhaps you're more wary of others. Do you trust everything you read? Good reading skills enable us to ascertain reliable sources and spot evidence (or lack of it) in an article.
Welcome to the Free Books Blog - don't you just love a bit of alliteration?
Over the weeks and months, you can expect to see reports of our events, free resources for schools and let's see what happens from there. Bookmark the page and check back regularly.
The Free Books project operates as an unregistered charity. Currently no money changes hands and no data is collected or stored.
We operate under the umbrella of The Leadgate Task Force and in association with the Derwent Valley Litfest and The Punctuation Show.
Our vision is to work with schools and other educational establishments in order to ensure that no household is book free.
